By Tech Coderz Admin Whenever it comes to technology, innovations or engineering, men are always the dominant force. It shows that the status of women in technology is still inferior. We can only find a few names hardly mentioned, else we cannot see any women mentioned unless we go looking for them. In some context, women tend to be the brains for the big achievement within the industry but gets unrecognized and such cases lead to a misconception that women don’t tend to contribute to the technology sector. Despite having fewer opportunities and a lack of support, the role of women in the field of technology is about to take a sharp turn towards betterment. A survey made showed that about 1500 women working in the field of technology were aged from 18-39 which also shows that there is a better opportunity for the improvement of women in the technology sector. A statistic published by The Trust Radius in 2020 showed that there are more women in tech-industry now than a few years back i.e. it showed 68% of total women engagement. This survey shows that more women and youngsters are getting themselves into technology and finding their way within. Although it is said that men and machines were the first programmers to make changes in the world of technology, but women have not less contributed to the field of technology and still are contributing the same. It’s just that, as said earlier, they don’t get recognition. The Electrical Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) – the world’s first electric computer, which was used during The Second World War – was programmed by 6 women. To name some of the exemplary women in Technology, we have, Tasneem Hajara, Head of Digital Distribution and Mobile Technology at TIAA. She has led Digital and Project Technology teams across different domains during her career. She leads with the broad lens on product and platform strategy as well as engineering and operational efficiency. She also built TIAA’s homegrown Robo Advisor. Lisa Su, Advanced Micro Devices CEO, has served as the president and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices since October 2014. She has been at the company since 2012. Kim Grennan is the founder and CEO of Axle Eight, a marketing and strategy consulting agency for tech start-ups. She analyzes data involving a variety of corporate and consumer issue. Besides these, many other women’s in the field of technology and there, contributions are Dr Gitanjali Swami(managing partner at an IoT company), Joan Ross(chief Intelligent Officer at Insight Cyber), Natasha Tamaskar( head of global marketing and sales enablement at Radisys). Reshma Saujani (Founder and CEO of Girls Who Code), Kate Crawford (co-founder of the AI Now Institute). Organization are opening doors to support and embrace women and their participation in technology and to reduce the diversity gap in technology. According to women-in-tech statistics 2020-a, a mere 20% of position in tech are held by women. It says the situation is not as pathetic as it appears to be. it is also seen that those companies with 30% of the female have experienced around 15% of profitability. In the field of technology, more revenue is not just profit but also more fun for research and development. The research found that the gender gap in technology starts at school levels and goes out through women’s life. Every girl from an early age should be made aware of the opportunities they have when they are on their path of choosing their career. Women participation must be motivated in creating and developing new tech business that shapes the world. More women involvement should be initiated in the tech-world which adds on essential diversity in the sector and helps in inspiring the next generation.
